Happy new year! I can’t believe how quickly this year has flown by, and that we’re now on the doorstep of yet another year… and more adventures and surprises!
I feel like I am perpetually writing these words: sorry, but I’m behind on the blog. Working crazy hours is not helping. There have been lots of adventures that I need to catch up on – including a trip to Thailand and Cambodia in MAY that I haven’t even got to. I seriously have no idea where the time goes these days.
In PNG this month it’s been slightly nuts. I was up in the Highlands for two weeks when we suddenly had two Prime Ministers, two Police Commissioners and two Governor Generals. Widespread violence and rioting was expected, but other than a little gunfire in Port Moresby, all has been calm. Then we were hit with a 7.3 magnitude earthquake. I was a little bit snotty that I was missing all the action happening in Port Moresby!
Looking back over the past year has reminded me just how unexpected life can be. I wrote my 2011 travel plans around this time last year and, while I did get to a lot of the places I thought I’d be going, packing up and moving to Papua New Guinea, one of the least travelled and most dangerous places in the world, was certainly not something I thought I’d be doing this year! It’s been an amazing (but busy!) seven months here in PNG and I’m still so excited to be living here, despite the many challenges that come with living in this country.
So… I could write a 2012 Travel Plans post – but no doubt my plans would end up going all astray anyway, so let’s just wait to see what the year brings!
To everyone who stops by here now and then – when I actually have written a post! – thanks for the support and I hope you all have a wild new year’s eve and an amazing 2012!

I just started working normal hours and I understand how you can get behind on the blog, I am SOO behind its stressful.
Here’s hoping 2012 is better for both of us.
I think that riots and extreme earthquakes are enough of a reason to not update a blog – I may be wrong though. <3
Happy New Year to you too, Rebecca! I almost got a ticket to PNG this March (I need to leave Oz every 6 months for my visa), but ended up getting one to Vanuatu instead. I’m so glad you’re safe and sound and having adventures in spite of all the busyness and political upheaval. I hope this year is fantastic for you.
Well if you do end up coming here at some point, let me know! There are some great spots here.
