I grew up in the small town of Echuca, smack bang on the border of Victoria and New South Wales in Australia. It’s a town of about 21,000 people (I could be making that number up, though…) and the Murray River separates the two states. We’re famous for having some of the oldest paddlesteamers in the world, boat races and a historic port. It’s a popular tourist spot, so summer was always so busy, the streets full of unfamiliar faces.
While I’m now most definitely a city girl, I’m glad I grew up here.
There have been floods recently, so you can see here how high the river is (see the trees on the other side of the river? They’re normally on the riverbank, not in the river.).
