The first sighting of the Temples of Angkor was every bit as magical and awe-inspiring as I’d imagined. I’d always thought that the pictures I’d seen in books showed this astonishing construction pretty well, but nothing prepared me for the small shivers I got when I first laid eyes on it in person. Getting inside was even better – a chance to get up close and study the sculptures, carvings and bas-reliefs in detail. And once again be flabbergasted at the architecture and design of these oh-so-old buildings. And for those planning to visit the Temples of Angkor in one day – think again. You need at least three days to soak in the history and marvel at these awesome creations.
